The Wendy’s High School Heisman® Program

The Wendy’s High School Heisman® Program recognized two of Vermont’s most outstanding high school seniors with the as state winners of the 2014 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award competition. Abigail Schmidt of Black River High School in Ludlow and John Winslow of Otter Valley Union High School in Brandon will now move on to compete for the national award that celebrates their hard work and dedication in athletics, academics and community leadership.

Schmidt and Winslow were chosen from a group of Vermont finalists that also included West Rutland’s Maya Dow, Windsor’s Mallory Curtis, Mill River’s Carly Ward, Danville’s Jacquelyn White, Spaulding’s Gillian Felch and Poultney’s Zack Constantine. ,

Schmidt and Winslow will compete against winners from other regions across the country for a chance to be named one of 12 National Finalists in Wendy’s annual search for the nation’s top scholar-athletes. These 12 outstanding students will go on to compete for the National Winner title in New York City on Dec. 12. National Finalists will be featured during a televised ceremony on ESPN networks and will each receive a gold medal and a $2,000 award for their high schools. One male and one female National Winner will each receive a crystal Wendy’s High School Heisman trophy, a $500 Wendy’s gift card and an additional donation from Wendy’s in the amount of $8,000 to their respective high school. Additionally, the winners will be recognized during the collegiate Heisman Trophy announcement on December 13, 2014 at 8 p.m. ET.
